Description

Cockpit international series gauges are the only VDO gauges available in the USA to feature metric scales. Based on the original cockpit series, the cockpit international series temperature and pressure gauges feature both imperial and metric scales. Cockpit international series gauges feature angled black bezels and side-lit illumination. Black gauge faces are complimented by ISO standard symbols.

Because each installation is different, sending units and LEDs are not included with the purchase of an individual gauge and must be purchased separately.

Which sender do I need?

You have the choice of many VDO senders for this gauge. We currently offer two in universal thread sizes. Typically there is no plug & play location to install a water temp sender in VWs and most modern imports. 1/8" NPT & 1/4" NPT fit basically all aftermarket adaptors and can be easily tapped into existing coolant fittings.

Which LED do I need?

This gauge includes a white 194 light bulb. For the ultimate in visibility and color we recommend the use of a high intensity 194 LED. Unlike the vision series, the cockpit international series uses side-lit illumination. This means that the light needs to travel around the face of the gauge to light it up. A very bright LED is needed to achieve a well lit gauge. Our standard 194 wedge style LEDs and our perfect match LEDs are not recommended for cockpit international series gauges.

Our new high intensity LEDs are the ultimate in brightness. When installed in a VDO cockpit international series gauge these LEDs provide illumination which typically exceeds the brightness of an incandescent light bulb. These LEDs are available in 5 colors and are priced at $8.50 per LED.

What is included in the wiring kit?

Shown to the right is a typical 42 Draft Designs VDO wiring kit. Each VDO gauge includes a wiring kit built specifically for that gauge. We use flexible 18 gauge automotive wire, heavy duty crimp terminals, and thin black zip-ties.

A water temp wiring kit includes two 4.5' lengths of lighting wire, two 6' lengths of power and ground wire, an 8' sender wire, all necessary terminals, and zip-ties.

Recommended Electrical Accessories

We offer a variety of electrical accessories not included in the basic wiring kit. We have everything from crimpers to fuse boxes. For this gauge install we recommend scotchloks or T-taps to tap into existing dimmer switch wiring. We also recommend a mini inline fuse holder to protect your lighting circuit. A mini fuse add-a-circuit can be used to tap into a switched 12v power source. Browse our selection to learn more!
