Temperature Probe

Because each installation is different, temperature probes and LEDs are not included with the purchase of an individual gauge and must be purchased separately.

What temperature probe do I need?

This gauge requires the purchase of a temperature probe. We recommend the 1/4" Street Probe Kit. It includes the temperature probe, 10 feet of low resistance thermocoupler wire, and two choices of mounting hardware. The probe can be mounted by welding on the included 1/8" NPT steel bung to the turbo manifold or downpipe. It can also be installed using the included band clamp and drilling a 1/4" hole in the exhaust piping.

Stewart Warner offers a variety of probe kits for all ranges of street and race use. We reccomend the street probe kit for maximum lifespan. High performance probe kits feature faster response but significantly shorter lifespan. 42 has not yet experimented with SW's high performance probe kits. Once we have worked with this kits we will offer them to our customers.

Which LED do I need?

This gauge includes a white 194 light bulb. For the ultimate in visibility and color we recommend the use of a 194 LED. We offer a variety of LED options for this gauge including basic 194 wedge style LEDs, high intensity LEDs, and perfect match LEDs.

194 Wedge Style LEDs
Basic 194 wedge style LEDs are a great way to light a SW gauge. We have them available in 6 colors. Priced at $4 per LED, these LEDs provide an affordable and bright color change.

High Intensity 194 Wedge Style LEDs
Our new high intensity LEDs are the ultimate in brightness. When installed in SW gauges these LEDs provide illumination which typically exceeds the brightness of most OEM gauge clusters. These LEDs are available in 5 colors and are priced at $8.50 per LED.

Perfect Match LEDs
Our perfect match LED system provides a perfect match to the OEM VW mk4 instrument cluster. The LED consists of a grouping of 6 LEDs exactly matching the wavelength of the stock cluster built into a custom base and lens. To drive this LED our power regulator is required to regulate voltage and current. When installed in a SW gauge a OEM color match is achieved. SW perfect match LEDs are priced at $12 and the required power regulator is priced at $15.

What is included in the wiring kit?

Shown to the right is a typical 42 Draft Designs SW wiring kit. Each SW gauge includes a wiring kit built specifically for that gauge. We use flexible 18 gauge automotive wire, heavy duty crimp terminals, and thin black zip-ties.

An EGT wiring kit includes two 4.5' lengths of lighting wire, two 6' lengths of power and ground wire, all necessary terminals, and zip-ties.

Recommended Electrical Accessories

We offer a variety of electrical accessories not included in the basic wiring kit. We have everything from crimpers to fuse boxes. For this gauge install we recommend scotchloks or T-taps to tap into existing dimmer switch wiring. We also recommend a mini inline fuse holder to protect your lighting circuit.
